General Information

Herman Verwey is a documentary wedding photographer based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

While studying photography, Herman began his career as a freelance photographer for Media24, where he discovered his passion for documentary storytelling. Over the next decade, he worked as a photojournalist, covering news and human-interest stories, and was recognised with several national and international awards, including CNN African Photojournalist of the Year, Pictures of the Year International (POYi), Sony World Photography Awards, Media24 Photographer of the Year, SAB Photographer of the Year, and Vodacom Regional Photojournalist of the Year.

After ten years in news photography, Herman sought a more personal and meaningful way to tell stories and found it in documentary wedding photography. Drawing on his photojournalistic background, his approach remains natural, unobtrusive, and moment-driven, focusing on real emotions, honest connections, and the small moments that define a wedding day.
